Novanta macchine storiche inglesi dei marchi Frazer Nash, G.N. e Frazer Nash-BMW costruite tra il 1921 e il 1953 celebrano quest’anno il 85-esimo anniversario della partecipazione della Marca alle gare di regolarità nelle Alpi del 1932, 1933 e 1934. Negli anni trenta le vetture Frazer Nash ottennero molti successi in queste competizioni Alpine, in particolare nel 1933 quando una
stata l’unica vettura senza compressore a terminare le prove senza penalità. Solo due altre vetture arrivarono a penalità zero, una Bugatti ed una Alfa Romeo, tutte e due peròmunite di compressore.Il „raid” commemorativo del 2019 è il sesto con destinazione Alto Adige. Il primo, con base nella città di Bolzano, fu organizzato da David Thirlby nel giugno 1969.

Dieci delle nostre vetture parteciparono allora anche alla corsa in salita Bolzano - Mendola.Nella lingua inglese „raid” significa attacco di guerra, in italiano anche spedizione - avventura. ll Frazer Nash Club ha adottato il significato italiano della parola intendendo con ciò una spedizione seria, ma allegra e questo descrive al meglio questi avvenimenti oommemorativi i cui partecipantisi chiamano col nome collettivo di “raiders”.La Frazer Nash è una vettura Britannica eccezionale che è stata sviluppata dalle precedenti vetturette G.N. Tra il 1924 ed il 1938 furono costruite non più di 324 Frazer Nash tutte dotate di trasmissione a catena sull’assale posteriore invecedi una trasmissione convenzionale cardanica. L’illustrazionemostra la trasmissione con le 4 marce e retromarcia (la retromarcia è la seconda con movimento inverso).

L’albero di trasmissione gira con la stessa velocità dell’albero motore dato che tra i due si trova solamente la frizione. Queste vetture - di conseguenza - non sono dotate di differenziale e ciò è vantaggioso su strade con curve strette.È difficile spiegare con poche parole il fascino straordinariodi questa marca, ma è incontestabile che è veramente unico.ll rapporto eccezionale peso — potenza, lo sterzo direttoe leggero e l’assale posteriore rigido passante permetteuna guida veloce e agile anche se comparata con vetture modeme. Queste macchine sono veramente magiche non solo per il guidatore. ma anche per gli spettatori specialmente quando affrontano i tornanti stretti sulle stradein montagna.I piloti di queste vetture particolari si chiamano “Chain Gang”, vale a dire “banda delle catene”. ll nome Frazer Nashderiva dal fondatore, Archie Frazer Nash, un appassionatocorridore automobilistico degli anni venti.

Dopo il 1929 la ditta fu rilevata dai fratelli Aldington con il nome A.F.N. Ltd.Da quel momento furono montati principalmente motoriMeadows 4ED da 1.500 cm3. Negli anni venti e trenta i Frazer Nash dominarono in tutte le gare automobilisti che non solo in Gran Bretagna ma anche sul Continente Europeo.Negli anni trenta la A.F.N. importava vetture con guida a destra dalla BMW per vendere in Gran Bretagna con il marchio “Frazer Nash-BMW”. Dopo la guerrasi producevano vetture Sport con trazione cardanica e differenziale, (non più con catene) e dotate di motori Bristol, produzione che cessò nel 1954. ll motore Bristol era una copia quasi identica del motore della BMW 328 anteguerra.Anche queste macchine si comportarono molto bene nelle gare di allora come nei Rallyes degli Alpi e le 24 ore di Le Mans. Una Frazer Nash guidata da Franco Cortese vinse anche la Targa Florio del 1951.I “raiders”, tutti insieme. percorreranno ca. 400.000 km il mese de giugno 2019.

Attraverseranno il Regno Unito partendo da casa e si incontreranno a Innsbruck, da dove sarà data la partenza ufficiale il 8 giugno 2019. Dopo aver passato 9 giorni a Bolzano e dintorni i “raiders” prenderanno la via del ritorno verso il Regno Unito.Durante la permanenza in Italia i “raiders” avranno il piacere di superare con le lore Frazer Nash molti Passi Alpini. In un giorno solo, lo chiamiamo “il Giorno dei Dolomiti”, le vetture seguiranno un percorso che comprende il Passo delle Gardena, Sella, Pordoi, Falzarego, Giau, Staulanza, Duran, San Pellegrino, Costalunga ed il Nigra. Sosterremo una garadi regolarità a Bolzano in Piazza Tribunale e avremo come avversari il Veteran Car Team di Bolzano. Una corsa di regolarità in salita si svolgerà inoltre a Monte Pana, circa 50.km a nord di Bolzano. Ringraziamo di cuore tutti quanti ci hanno dato un aiuto e che hanno reso possibile la realizzazione di questo magnifico evento e di renderlo così eccezionale.

Noi speriamo di poter continuare questa tradizione dei “raids” commemorativi verso l’Alto Adige e contiamo fermamente di ritornare a Bolzano fra altri 10 anni e precisamente l’anno 2029.
